Mini Motorbike Thieves Punished

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two locals were jailed and fined after pleading guilty to charges of theft before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Azman bin Jaya and Ali Akhbar @ Syakirin bin Mohd Mohsin were convicted of stealing a single disc CD player and two RPM meters from a car belonging to a 40-year-old woman which was parked at the victim's house on the afternoon of June 27, last year.

A second conviction against the defendants stated that they stole a mini motorbike model Yamaha MM 812 AR6 50cc chassis no. 0875104 from a house in Kg Subok sometime in June last year.

Another charge against Azman only stated that he stole three computer notebooks, four mobile phones and a Sony Playstation at a house in Kg Sg Tilong on June 4, 2006.

Azman was further convicted of a charge of stealing a 21" television set and a DVD player from another home in Jalan Perusahaan Muara on May 25, 2006.

Azman was sentenced to two years and ten months in jail for the offences, while Ali Akhbar got a $3,000 fine or six months imprisonment in default. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
