Behave in school, students told
By Husin Ismail
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Students at the Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School
yesterday commemorated the 23rd National Day, with Principal Cikgu
Jumaat calling on the students to stop using mobile phones or commit
other offences.
Cikgu
Jumaat called on the students to display good manners, to be
positive, to appreciate the facilities provided by the school, to
socialise and to avoid fights.
The principal told The Brunei Times
the school has become one of the leading government secondary
schools in the sultanate because of its improved performance in
academic year 2005-2006. He said his students were included among
the top 10 achievers during the Lower Form Exams, which covered 10
subjects, and some received scholarships to study abroad.
The school has established reading
programmes in which students read only English books for 30 minutes,
an activity meant to improve their English reading skills and habit.
The programme was set up following the discovery that the students'
English reading age was low. The school also plans to organise a
library for students to read in during their break.
The day was also marked by a
performance of the school choir. -- Courtesy of
