Indian association conducts 51 St AGM

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) recently conducted its 51st Annual General Body meeting at Institute Perkhitmatan Awam (IPA).

The meeting was attended by a large number of members and their families.

Welcoming the gathering in his presidential address, Dr PS Sugathan touched on the aims and ethos of BSBIA, one of the oldest associations in Brunei - which has been registered with His Majesty's government for over 50 years now and is functioning as an umbrella organisation for all persons of Indian origin in Brunei.

He highlighted the cordial and strengthening relations between India and the Indian community on the one hand, and His Majesty's government and the Bruneian people on the other.

He implored the members to function as ambassadors of India in Brunei by their attitudes and actions.

Later, Secretary Sujay Kamat read out the annual report chronicling the activities and achievements of BSBIA during 2006. This was followed by the financial statement by Treasurer Dhiraj Tyagi.

An all-important agenda of the election of the management committee for the year 2007 was officiated' by Dr Vasudevan Mangalam as a returning officer.

The meeting came to a close by vote of thanks by the secretary followed by the national anthem.

A sumptuous dinner followed which was enjoyed by the members and their families, who also exchanged pleasantries, reinforced old fellowships and formed new friendships. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
