Religious Event To Mark New Hijrah

Bandar Seri Begawan - Haji Abdul Azim Mosque's Takmir committee recently held a religious ceremony to mark the new Hijrah year at its premises in Kampong Luagan Dudok, according to a press release.

Present as the guest of honour was Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Department Ustaz Haji Kahar bin Haji Hussin.

The event began with a recital of Al-Quran by representative of the mosque's youth group Ustaz Haji Kaharuddin bin Mohd Ali.

Awards were later presented to Haji Yaakub bin Tahirudin, Haji Aluwi bin Mohd Salleh, and Hj Yahya bin Hj Mohamad for their contributions to the mosque.

The guest of honour also handed donations collected from the villagers to eight orphans and launched a hearse donated by an anonymous person.

The ceremony was aimed at celebrating the year and remembering the history of the Hijrah.

Other objectives included strengthening ties among villagers, reducing the burden of orphans during the school year and honouring the people who contributed beneficially to the mosque. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
