By Sonia K

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) officiated the "4'h Executive Programme for Senior Asean Government Officers-Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar & Vietnam" (EDPSAGO-CLMV) at the university's Chancellor Hall yesterday.

This is a full-time training programme and is designed specifically for senior government officers of the CLMV countries in Asean. The eight-week programme will include one week of orientation and an introduction to the foundation of public administration and public policy; one week of field studies in Brunei; and six weeks of intensive lectures and seminars.

The programme, which was launched yesterday, will end on April 21.

This is the fourth time that such a training course has been offered to select Asean senior government officers from the CLMV countries. It is being sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service Department, Prime Minister's Office. This is part of Brunei's contribution to the Asean technical cooperation initiative.

UBD has been commissioned to act as the agency to conduct this training programme with the assistance of various government organisations.

Present as the guest of honour at the yesterday's launching was Dr Roger Lawrey, the Deputy Dean of Business, Economic and Policy Studies.

One of the objectives of the programme is to strengthen participants' knowledge about strategic and regional issues in Asean as well as contemporary approaches and practices in development policy and public management. It is hoped that the training will enhance the managerial effectiveness of the participants.

Among those who are taking part in this year's programme are: Mr Chea Thireak, Deputy Director of Francophonie Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia; Mr Phommarak Phasouk, Deputy Director General of Personnel Department, Central Committee Organisation and Personnel, Laos; U Myint Hun, Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar; and Mr N guyen An Duy, Head of Korea Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
