By Debbie Too

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam celebrated the World Thinking bay yesterday with the theme "Discover your potential by taking the lead, growing friendships and speaking out" at its headquarters in Anggerek Desa.

Present at the event was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, president of the association.

"World thinking Day 2007 focuses our attention on these three exciting core aims so that many more girls worldwide can develop leadership skills in a friendly and supportive way and take action on issues that affect them,", said Hjh Hajidah Hj Abdul Wahab, the association's secretary.

"Today we learnt about taking steps to becoming a leader to make the world a better place," said 18-year-old Girl Guide Rozailah Hj Abdul Rahman. "We are very involved with the older generation and the community and we invited the elders to our function today for some activities."

The 51-year-old association in Brunei aims to help young girls develop their self-esteem and leadership skills. "We try to instil a noh-formal education for the girls," said Hjh Noraini Ibrahim, chairperson for World Thinking Day 2007. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
