UBD Training For Asean Civil Servants

Bandar Seri Begawan - The opening of the eight-week Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers of CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) countries will take place today at the Institute of Policy Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

In a press release, the Public Service Department, Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Darussalam said, "This is the fourth time that such a training course has been offered to selected Asean senior government officers from the CLMV countries and is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Public Service Department, Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Darussalam as part of the country's contribution to the Asean technical cooperation initiatives."

"Universiti Brunei Darussalam is again commissioned to act as the agency conducting this training programme with assistance from other government agencies. On hand to brief the participants and guests are officials from the Public Service Department and Universiti Brunei Darussalam."

The press release said the programme has the following objectives:

"To impart knowledge to participants about strategic and regional issues in Asean, and about contemporary approaches and practices in development policy and public management; it is anticipated that the training programme will enhance the managerial effectiveness of participants."

"To demonstrate and teach relevant skills for conceptualising and analysing public sector problems and issues in general, and for implementing and evaluating public policies, programmes and projects in particular."

"To enhance awareness and understanding about contemporary ideas and approaches to administrative reforms and transformation and about the process of modern governance and strategic management in a dynamic and changing public sector environment." -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
