Patient’s Book Describes Tough
Cancer Battle
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - According to statistics from the Cancer Registry of
Brunei Darussalam, the average cancer death rate for the period of
1999 to 2003 has increased 43 per cent from the period of 1994 to
1998.
However, one cancer patient has
defied the odds and managed to complete a book on his experience.
Mr
Lawrence Loh's book "Thank Goodness I Have Cancer" is the first book
of its kind to be published by a local writer in Brunei Darussalam.
The book focuses on Lawrence's
battle against colon cancer, for which he was diagnosed in 2000, and
his adoption of complementary therapies in herbs, supplements and
coffee enemas, which he said has assisted him in recovery to date.
Detailing Lawrence's journey to
look for a cure for his ailment, the book is a great inspiration to
those seeking more knowledge on cancers in general.
Although surgery and chemotherapy
were instrumental in his recovery, Lawrence firmly believes that the
regular administration of coffee enemas with the taking of herbs and
nutritional supplements have been important prophylactics for the
prevention of recurrence of cancer, and therefore a cure.
Speaking about the book, Lawrence
said, "Through cancer, I look at life from a new perspective."
"I know the value of time. I have
learned the value of relationships, and cancer has transformed my
personality into a new me, a better me."
"If you are a cancer patient, you
need to overcome mountainous obstacles in search of the right
treatment to reach the pinnacle of health and survival."
"Surviving cancer is like climbing
a mountain: It is an arduous upward climb to the top. Some don't
bother to try, some stop half-way, some become complacent, and some
struggle through to reach the summit of freedom."
"Thank Goodness I Have Cancer" is
on sale at the Pesta Buku 2007 at the National Indoor Stadium and
Lawrance is on hand to autograph the book. -- Courtesy of Borneo
