Malaysia Cup: Selangor stun
champions Perlis
Selangor upset the formbook as they
beat defending champions Perlis 1-0 in a Group A Malaysia Cup clash
at Shah Alam Stadium on Saturday night, the New Straits Times
reported yesterday.
Despite not having the services of
Akmal Rizal Rakhli, Shafi Ali, Shafiq Rahim, Amirul Hadi Zainal and
D. Surendran, Selangor were the more imaginative side, troubling
Perlis
just four minutes into the game but
striker Mohd Fadzli Shaari's shot was saved by Perlis goalkeeper Tay
Sin Kiat.
Selangor
started the second half aggressively and were rewarded in the 55th
minute when Amri Yahya slotted home from close range after Fadzli's
shot hit the cross bar.
Perak
humiliated Pahang 5-0 at the Perak Stadium. Keita Mandjao opened
scoring in the third minute.
Ahmad Shahrul Azahar increased the
lead in the 28th minute and Khalid Jamlus scored his fifth in five
matches in the 65th minute.
R Surendran completed Pahang's
humiliation with a double in the 86th and 88th minutes.
Johor
FC defeated Johor Pasir Gudang 2-0 at the Larkin Stadium. Zambian
striker Tembo Masauso scored in the 14th minute and set up the
second for Hamzani Omar to score in the 89th minute.
At the City Stadium in George Town,
Malacca defeated Penang 2-1 in Group B.
Mohd Farizal crossed the ball into
the penalty box and M. Prakash connected for Penang to open accounts
in the 16th minute.
Just before the break, Malacca
cancelled the deficit when Sharil Arsat's 25-metre free kick sailed
through as Penang goalkeeper Sharrifuddin Shahril stood rooted.
Malacca's Richard Privitzer scored
the winner when he headed home a free kick in the 77th minute.
At the Lumut Stadium in Preka,
Terengganu won 2-0 against Armed Forces with Norfahan Mohammad
scoring in the 43rd minute and Cik Hishamuddin Hassan in the 71st
minute.
Police collected three points at
the Sarawak Stadium when they won their Group C match 3-2 against
Sarawak.
