Helpful Medical Teams At Taman
By Asri Razak and Sobrina Rosli
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Some 20 students participating in the National
Day's field performance at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali
Saifuddien yesterday suffered from heat stroke. Lucky for them the
Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleh Hospital (Ripas) medical teams were
at hand to render immediate assistance.
Ripas's
Nursing officer, Maraja Ulat said, there were 16 posts sparsely
spread all over the area around the Taman where the public could
seek medical attentions.
For emergency cases they would be
referred to one of the 3 clinics set up in the area. The clinics
were manned by doctors, nurses and complete with equipment.
He said heatstroke is common at
gatherings where people are exposed to the scorching sun for a long
period of time.
"The number of people brought in
for treatment due to heatstroke at this year's National Day
celebrations is the same as last year's," Maraja said.
Hj Omar, 55, whose daughter was one
of the participants taking part in the performance expressed his
concern over the weather saying that Brunei's weather had been
unpredictable over the past weeks. "Fortunately the rain had stopped
enabling the students to perform after weeks of training."
He also commended on the medical
service provided by the Ripas hospital which in his view was very
helpful indeed.
"I have heard of children suffering
from heatstroke which can be very worrying as Brunei can get really
hot at this time of year. The setting up of posts by Ripas hospital
is helpful in case of emergencies."
Farizah, a 17-year-old student who
took part in yesterday's parade said it was very assuring to see
nurses and members of the hospital around the venue, because to take
people who need medical help to the hospital will take a longer time
and it is quite difficult to get out of the area filled with
thousands of people. -- Courtesy of Borneo
