End Of Celebrations Draws Mixed
Emotions
By Khairunnisa Ibrahim
Bandar Seri
Begawan - After preparing diligently for more than four
weeks, participants of the National Day celebrations expressed a
mixture of pride and jubilation for playing a part in the
proceedings, and sadness now that it is over.
Those interviewed by The Brunei
Times yesterday said that the long hours under the sun perfecting
the moves were worth the sweat and exhaustion.
"It was enjoyable, it made me happy
to be part of the performance," said Mohd Ayob, a student at the
Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, adding that it
took him about three weeks to get the moves right.
Likewise, Rojaimah, Noraziemmah and
Norimah from TelBru expressed their satisfaction with their roles in
the grand event.
"We had a good coach to teach us
and although it was boring at first, we eventually enjoyed it. Also,
it gave us an opportunity to exercise (which we couldn't do) in our
jobs," they said.
The preparations were even worth
missing several classes, according to a group of students from the
Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien College, although they have to make up
the missed lessons with extra classes.
Hisyam,
Khairul Anuar and Roby said that they worked hard to perfect their
routines and tried to learn the changes introduced in the later part
of rehearsals as quickly as possible.
But the culmination of the 23rd
National Day, celebrations also signalled the return to the
participants' normal routines and the end of the rehearsals - and
the friendships and interactions made along the way.
For the TelBru ladies, the
rehearsals played apart in bringing the organisation's employees
closer together.
"We are new staff members, so (the
rehearsals) allowed us to make friends with the more veteran
employees and those from other districts.
As for the SOAS College students
the end of the celebrations meant that no more fun times joking with
their coach. -- Courtesy of
