People’s Show At National Day
Parade
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - for several expatriate workers and their families,
the 23rd National Day parade was a celebration they did not want to
miss because it was wholly the people's show.
They said they were impressed with
the parade and the performances during the celebration, which
outlined the unity and solidarity of the people in Brunei
Darussalam.
"We are glad to be here to witness
the 23`d National Day of your country. We are very impressed (with
it). There is maximum involvement of the local people.
"The whole show is by the Bruneian
people. That shows their love for their country," they said after
the celebration.
They were also amazed at the
attendance of the many schoolchildren who performed in the parade.
"It is a great thing for them. They
feel that they are part of the process of development of the
country," they said.
The parade, which attracted foreign
tourists, was also a good way to promote Brunei to the world,
especially in the field of education, said a local resident who saw
the celebration at the Taman.
"It is a good way for them (foreign
tourists) to know about Brunei (by witnessing the National Day
celebration). After this, they will be eager to know more about this
country and its people," he said. -- Courtesy of Borneo
