Patriotic Fervour Sweeps Brunei

Begawan - Bruneians from all walks of life gathered in Bandar
Seri Begawan, as the 'y J nation's capital filled with masses of
people both young and old to celebrate the National Day.
Patriotism swept the air as the
parade and March past began.
People, especially youngsters like
15 yrold nk. Azimah Bte Pg Azahari, Nursyaz-wam Hj Yakib,
NoorFairuzah Hani, Nur Mali izzati and Siti Nur Amani, students of
in Sekolah Menengah Berakas were beaming with excitement as began
their performances in the field.
Speaking to the Sunday Bulletin,
they said it was their second attempt at performing to a large
crowd.
They have been practising for
months and had perfected their steps already. When they were asked
if they knew the theme of this year's National Day; they all shouted
"Iltizam Memperkasa Keupayaan Bangsa" or Commitment That Empowers A
Nation's Capability, - in unison. The theme has a deep meaning for
them and relates to the feeling of national pride.
Their feeling of the National Day
they said “Was fitting encouragement for them who needed to boost
their feelings of patriotism. They need encouragement to show the
nation's sovereignty and instil in them a sense of pride.
24-year-old Yassin bin Affandi who
was in the sidelines watching the National Day celebrations at the
Taman said " I was lucky enough to get a chance' to watch this
spectacle, as I work in the private sector.
I really needed to come to the
Taman to watch this. Speaking on the meaning of National Day, he
said, "It has deep meaning for me, as an "Anak Brunei" I am proud to
celebrate our country's National Day, and it is part of my personal
tradition to come down to the Taman".
He added, " This year's national
day theme is suitable also for our younger generation as it's time
they faced up to new challenges in the global arena to be part of a
strong country standing high among others in the world.
This feeling was not only felt by
youths but also by senior citizens.
First Warrant Officer (Rtd) Hj
Moksin bin Md Tahir who was participating in a show of strength with
a 110-strong member team of the "Pasukan Bekas Prajurit Brunei
Darussalam" former army personnel Brunei Darussalam said “I am happy
to be given the opportunity to join the National Day parade”.
"This year's National Day theme was
fitting for our young nation to show its patriotic solidarity," he
