RC Racers Gear Up For Brunei Open
2007
By Mohammad Abdullah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - While everyone is busy with the 23rd National Day
celebrations, PEMKAR officials are busy with the upcoming "1/10
Nitro Brunei Open Championship 2007" that will be held on the same
day as the celebrations in the capital.
The Taman Jubilee in the capital
will be the venue of the race. The event will begin at 1 pm.
To date, there has been
considerable hype among international racers who had initially
intended to compete in the Brunei Open race, which is organised by
PEMKAR (Remote Control Cars and Boats Association) and co-organised
by the Municipal Board Department in conjunction with the ongoing
celebration of the "100 years transition of Kg Ayer to Bandar".
However, only a handful of
international RC drivers will be attending the "1/10 Nitro Brunei
Open Championship 2007", as a result of the constant changes in the
schedule and due to the Chinese New Year celebrations.
"At first, the race was scheduled
to be held in late December, but then it was moved to January," said
one of the event's organisers. "Then it was postponed again by the
authorities until the scheduled date on February 24.
"Initially, the international
participants who were ready to race in Brunei numbered more than 30.
But due to the clash with Chinese New Year celebrations most of the
participants pulled out, as a large number of them are Chinese," he
added.
However, top drivers such as top
Malaysian-sponsored driver Azri Amri, ' Maulana from Kuching
Sarawak, Badrul Hisham, winner of the last Kyosho Open, and Fayakhun,
one of the top drivers from Indonesia, will be competing in the
Brunei Open.
The race will be held for two days
on February 24 and 25. Despite the relatively low level of
participation from the international drivers, local drivers
expressed their eagerness to race in the Brunei Open.
"The international drivers are
staunch supporters of Brunei's racers, and have been eager to test
the mettle of the Brunei drivers in their home turf," said the
organiser.
The Brunei Open race promises
participants a look at the international drivers and their standard
of driving, thereby serving as a platform that would help locals to
improve and compete in the international competitions in the future. -- Courtesy of Borneo
