Foochow Lion Dance Troupe Most Sought After In Belait

Kuala Belait - About fifty lion dance troupe members comprising youths from the Foochow Community Association in the Belait District performed at houses at Kampong Sungai Teraban during the Chinese New Year celebration.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, the lion dance troupe members performed at the association's head office at Jalan Bunga Raya, Kuala Belait and also at Chung Hua Kuala Belait School.

The lion dance youth members then performed at the chairman's residence in Kampong Pandan. According to its Chairman Mr Tan Tei Tei, the association is the first Chinese association in Belait to start a youth lion dance troupe.

The Chairman said that it has been competitive for the association's lion dance troupe with the presence of more lion dance troupes from other Chinese associations in the district.

But he added that the number of invitations for the association's lion dance troupe had risen as compared to previous years. Money collected from the performances will be used to fund the association's youth activities. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
