Home Affairs Soccer Champs

Begawan - The Brunei Muara District Office team are the new
the Ministry of Home Affairs football champions following their 4-2
win in a penalty shootout over the Prisons Department after both
sides were tied 1-1 at the end of extra time, in the final at the
Balapan Complex in Berakas on Saturday night.
The title was the first by the
Brunei Muara District Office team.
Both sides began the final
aggressively and created a lot of chances, but it was Prisons who
drew first blood in the 13th minute with a goal from CO Ali bin Hj
Rashid. But the Brunei Muara side hit back just three minutes later,
Ak Muhd Zulfadli bin Pg Hj Tajuddin slotting in the equaliser.
Unfortunately, that was how the
score remained until -the game ended after extra time.
Brunei Muara's keeper Mohammad
Bakhtiar bin Hj Mohd Husin emerged as the hero for his team in the
penalty shoot-out, saving two of the Prisons' penalties and winning
the game for Brunei Muara. Thanks to his heroics, Mohammad Bakhtiar
was named `man of the match' for the final.
The Kuala Belait District Office
finished third.
This year's tournament was
organised by the Kuala Belait Municipal Board. It was aimed at
fostering closer ties between officers and staff of the various
departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Presenting prizes to all the
winners was the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan
