Participants In Celebratory Mood
By Mohammad Abdullah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - With the National Day just around the corner,
rehearsals have become more intense. The National Day celebration is
one of the nation's biggest events with a participation of more than
16,000 people.
The nation celebrates this joyous
occasion-on Feb 23 and the people usually prepare themselves two
months beforehand.
Schoolchildren, representatives
from the private sector and civil servants work hand-in-hand
rehearsing their part in flash card displays and other colourful
formations.
In addition, mass prayers and
reading of Surah Yaasin are held at mosques throughout the country.
This year's celebration falls on
Saturday, February 24. A 20-minute performance will be staged
carrying the National Day's theme - "Commitment Empowering the
Nation's Capabilities".
An estimated 9,000 participants
will be involved in this performance comprising representatives from
the government and private sectors, non-governmental organisations
and students.
All the participants will be
performing active and creative movements by making the pattern in a
`Human Graphic' shape which describes the National Day theme.
Some 7,800 schoolchildren will be
involved in the theme performances, which will consist of four
segments - 'Colourful Nation' (Warna Warni Negara), `7 Ethnic' (Rentak
7 Puak), `Home Land' (Tanah Airku) and `Honest Commitment' (Ikhlas
litizam).
Nine patriotic songs including the
national anthem will be performed throughout the celebration. All
the songs are composed to enhance the nation's patriotic spirit.
Participants involved in the march
past are especially proud to be involved in the celebration.
Participants include army veterans who have not missed a single
practice session. "We're proud to be a part of the celebration,"
said an army veteran. -- Courtesy of Borneo
