Joint Effort To Keep Ayer Crime

Begawan - As fireworks lit up the sky to usher in the Chinese
New Year on Saturday night, some 90 law enforcement officers on
several boats held a surprise raid on Kg Ayer in an effort to ensure
the water village was free of crime.
The three-hour blitz from 12am to
3am involved four law enforcement agencies - the Royal Brunei Police
Force comprising CID Personnel of Brunei District Police Station and
Central Police Station; Narcotics Control Bureau; Law Enforcement
Section of the Department of Immigration and National Registration;
and the Prevention and Intelligence Division of Royal Customs and
Excise.
The operation, codenamed "Ops
Bersepadu" or "Joint Operation", targeted nine locations in Kg Ayer,
which were Kg Saba Darat, Kg Saba Tengah, Kg Lurong Sikuna, Kg
Pekilong Muara, Kg Ujong Klinik, Kg Sumbiling Lama, Kg Sg Kedayan
and Kg Bukit Salat.
During the operation, law enforcers
raided a house resided by two people and detained them for
possessing drug paraphernalia.
Another three were detained for
customs offences, one of which was for illegally processing local
wine known as "Tuak", while the other two were detained for
consuming, peddling and buying alcoholic drinks.
A total of 13 foreign nationals
were also detained during the raid for failing to produce valid
documents.
According to Brunei District Police
Station DCO, the aim of the operation was to eradicate criminal
activities in Kg Ayer. It was hoped that this sort of operation,
which will be conducted from time to time, can eradicate crime and
negative social activities.

cooperate and go to the nearest police station or call the hotline
