Qlap Cineplex Opens Doors To Public
By Sonia K

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Seri Qlap Cineplex yesterday received its first batch of customers, who eagerly queued up for the 12 pm show.

"The new Cineplex (in Kiulap) is absolutely comfortable, particularly the seats. It is really unique compared to other cinemas," said Yussof, a frequent cinema-goer.

The reclining seats are one of the interesting features the place has to offer. Additionally, the sound system installed is on par with some of the best cinemas in the region.

"The cosy environment at the cinema brings out the best of the sound system," said Seri Qlap Cineplex Executive Director Ang Swee Meng

The Cineplex has four theatres and can easily fill 120 people. The place hopes to offer the ultimate cinematic experience.

"It's the first Cmeplex in Kiulap and this location was chosen with intentions to bring the crowd in to Kiulap," Mr Ang said.

In response to why he chose to engage in a cinema business, Mr Ang said, "Because there are not many cinemas in Brunei and there is a potential for growth in the number of movie goers.

"We have a good crowd of the younger generation who are coming up and because of that we feel that these youngsters would not want to watch DVDs at home with their parents. They would want to watch movies at the cinema with their friends."

"In Singapore, the average population goes to the movies three times a year, so we hope to be able to achieve that in Brunei," he added.

The place currently employs 25 locals but intends to hire 30 staff in totality.

"The Cineplex intends to screen five shows on weekdays and six shows on weekends.. Like all cinemas here, we will screen the latest movies available," he added.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
