Make Mosque Centre Of Your Life
By Husin Ismail
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Mosques have a great social and spiritual place in
the lives of the Muslims. The mosque is the place which unites them
and their efforts. It refines their souls and awakens their minds
and hearts. It solves their problems. The mosque shows their
strength and cohesiveness.
This was stated in the Friday
prayers sermon delivered at mosques, throughout the country.
The sermon also urged Muslims to
glorify mosques for Allah (SWT) has promised many rewards for those
who do this. There are many ways of glorifying mosques. Muslims are
called upon not only to attend prayers in mosques and other
religious activities, but also to protect and preserve the sanctity
and cleanliness of mosques. They should always conduct themselves in
a respectful and appropriate manner while in mosques.
The Friday sermon said during
Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) era mosques were also used as centres for
learning and education, administration, conference and community
information, among other things, apart from being a place for
worship, reading the al-Quran and other religious activities.
The sermon quoted the Surah Nuur
verses 36 which means"(Lit up is such a Light), in houses, which
Allah Hath permitted to be raised To honour; for celebration, In
them, of His name: In them is He glorified In the mornings and In
the evenings, again and again."
His Majesty in his titah at the
opening ceremony of Kampong Bunut Mosque in July 17, 1993, said that
history has shown that mosques were not merely as a place for the
Ummah to worship Allah (SWT) but a centre in the creation of an
Ummah.
The sermon said His Majesty
stressed the importance of giving mosques the appropriate and
special attention as a core centre of activities for Muslims.
Brunei has sufficient mosques,
surau and prayer halls for Muslims to perform their religious
duties. With all the facilities available, these places are also
used for various religious and community activities such as
religious classes and courses and even marriage ceremonies.
The sermon said glorifying mosques
will hopefully help in spreading the syiar of Islam in the sultanate
and the people will receive blessings from Allah (SWT). The sermon
also urged all Muslims to attend the Maghrib and Isya' mass prayers
and doa kesyukuran to be held on the evening of February 22,
inconjunction with the 23rd National Day anniversary at all main
mosques and suraus in the country. The main focus will be at the
Sultan Oman 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital.-- Courtesy of
