Last-Minute Festive Shopping
By Azrol Azmi

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Chinese community, which celebrates the Lunar New Year tomorrow, will be holding reunion dinners for family members tonight.

Most of the Chinese-run shops have temporarily closed from yesterday, while some remain open till midday today. Some of the shops will be closed for a few days, while others will extend their festivity period for more than a week.

Yesterday, many last-minute shoppers made a dash to shopping malls to purchase items for Chinese New Year.

Items that were selling fast included oranges or tangerines, which are integral to the Chinese tradition as they are said to symbolise an abundance of happiness.

Also plants and flowers such as "lucky bamboos" in vases, candy trays and red and gold home decorations were snapped up by shoppers at the very last minute. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
