Minister Praises UBD Professor's New Book

Bandar Seri Begawan - The latest book by Prof Madya Dr Haji Hashim Hj Abd Harnid, a professor from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, is an excellent publication for contemplation, research and comparison, said the Minister of Religious Affairs Wednesday night.

Pehin Jawatan LuarPekerma Raja Dato Seri UtamaDrUstaz Haji Awang Md Zain bin Hj Serudin said the book "Menyuruki Syair Rakis" is also important to literature lovers.

He said the thoughts of Prof Madya Dr Haji Hashim in the book, which researches Syair Rakis written by Pengiran Shahbandar Mohammad Salleh ibnu Pengiran Sharmayuda, a member of the Brunei royal family who lived in the 18th century, must be respected.

Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Md Zain was the guest of honour at the launching of the book at the Balai Sarmayuda, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Berakas. Organised by the Organisation of Brunei Literary Writers (Asterawani), the launch was also attended by writers including YAM Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Yusofbin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim-member of Legislative Council; Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pangarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman - the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs - and Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Yahya bin Hj Ibrahim.

Prof Madya Dr Haji Hashim in his speech as the head of Asterawani said the book launch was the second activity for the organisation this year, and he hoped Asterawani will organise more events.

Two academicians Prof Dato' Dr Haji Hashim Awang and Dr Awang Haji Morsidi bin Haji Muhamad delivered their findings on the book.

Prof Dato' Dr Haji Hashim Awang of UBD said the book definitely qualified to be published as an academic book by UBD. He described the publication as good value and focused in its approach. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
