SMS Donors Give $156,580 To Brunei Prihatin

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Total of $156,580 in donations were collected for the SMS Brunei Prihatin and facilitated by DST Communications Sdn Bhd from September 21 to October 11, 2006.

Donations of $1, $5, $15 and $20 were sent through the Short Messaging System to a designated number by DSTCom Easi and Prima users.

All donations were presented to the National Orphan Fund.

Awang Haji Marsad bin Haji Ismail, Chief Operation Officer of DST Group, presented yesterday to Pehin Major General (Retired) Dato Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, the donations in a mock cheque.

"The SMS Brunei Prihatin was aimed to swell the coffers of the Orphan Fund that has been worked on since 2005, and the 2006 programme has been able to collect $156, 580," he said.

"I am thankful and impressed with the positive response from the members of the public and the people of Brunei Darussalam towards a charity welfare programme that reflects the loving and caring society of the people of Brunei" he said.

The SMS Brunei Prihatin programme is a joint effort organised by the Community Development Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with Radio Television Brunei and DST Group. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
