Massive Raid In Jalan Subok

Begawan - Some 150 law enforcers swooped in on a residential
area in Jalan Subok Wednesday night in a joint effort to curb
growing social ills that allegedly plague the area.
The law enforcers comprised
personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force, Narcotics Control
Bureau, Immigration Law Enforcement Section, Religious Enforcement
Section, Royal Customs and Excise, Brunei-Muara District Office and
Department of Electrical Services.
The operation codenamed "Ops Sedar
I", targeted a residential area in Jalan Subok that is inhabited by
some 250 people. The operation began at 12.30 midnight and ended at
2.30am.
According to a spokesman from the
Royal Brunei Police Force, the aim of the operation was to curb
social ills in the area, including loitering late into the night,
narcotic activities, illegal drinking and 'khalwat'.
With the presence of the different
enforcement agencies, it was hoped that legal jurisdiction for all
offences would be completely covered, he added.
Also discovered during the raid
were unapproved electrical wirings at the area that might be a fire
hazard. Personnel from the Department of Electrical Services said
the electrical wirings were not in compliance with regulations.
Several suspects were brought in
for auestionine for suspected drug abuse, illegal alcohol
consumption, and immigration offences.
The spokesman for the Royal Brunei
Police Force hoped that the raid would help eradicate criminal
activities in the area and generate social awareness among
