By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Consultative Council of Kampung Tanah Jambu/Salar
and the local residents’ yesterday evening came up with a unique way
to show their patriotism to the country in conjunction with the 23rd
National Day celebrations this year.
They turned up in full force to fix
national flags to lamp-posts along Jalan Muara from the boundary of
Kg Salambigar/Kg Tanah Jambu up to Kg Salar/Kg Kapok boundary
covering a distance of 5km.
The unique flag-hoisting event was
led by Village Head Awg Haji Asar bin Haji Beruddin.
He said this is the second time
they have hoisted the national flags along Jalan Muara, the first
during His Majesty's birthday celebration last year.
The objective was not only to
enliven the atmosphere but also to instil the spirit of patriotism
and nationalism among the local residents especially the youth in
showing their love to the country and the beloved ruler.
The initiative is also in line with
this year's theme "Iltizam Memperkasa Keupayaan Bangsa" or
"Commitment Empowers National Capability", he said, adding that the
event is going to be one of the Consultative Council's annual
projects.
At yesterday's function, about 100
national flags were fixed to lamp-posts along Jalan Muara. They were
sponsored by the local residents and the Consultative Council of Kg
Tanah Jamb_ u/Salar in Mukim Mentiri.
At the event, Awg Haji Asar
presented the national flags to Awg Mohd Din Bin Haji Ahmad,
secretary of the consultative council, to kick-start the
flag-hoisting ceremony, which lasted from 5pm to 9pm.
Meanwhile, the consultative council
will be holding a "Sports Fest 2007" in July this year in
conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebrations following
popular demand from the public.
The festival will include an old
model car race and other traditional sports activities as well as
fun-filled games. -- Courtesy of Borneo
