PWM to Hold Lunar New Year Dinner In March

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Malaysian Citizens Association (PWM) will be holding a Lunar New Year Dinner on Saturday, March 17 at the Plenary Hall of. the International Convention Centre in Berakas. The highlight of the evening would be the presentation of Academic Excellence Recognition Awards to Malaysian students studying in Brunei.

The PWM vice-president (education) Stanley Lim said response to the Student Academic Excellence awards has been good with over 300 submissions received by the close of applications last Saturday.

However, the closing date has now been extended to Wednesday February 15 due to the release of the GCE `G' level results recently. Successful applicants will be informed via SMS, and have their names published in newspapers and the PWM website: http:://www.pwmbrunei.org by early March.

PWM is offering the awards for the third year now, ever since the association's inception in 2004. The objectives of the awards are to encourage- students to study hard while striving for academic excellence, in order to establish a good foundation for their future undertakings, and to honour those students who did well in their studies.

Deputy PWM president Jackson Ting revealed that dinner tickets are already available for sale, at $50 each. Guests could also book a Classic table for at least $500.

However, for good sitting arrangements, they could also book either the Platinum, Gold or Silver tables.

The dinner will carry the theme "Unity and Prosperity" for 2007.

The PWM vice-president (publicity and public relations) Ho Ley Hoon said events scheduled during the dinner include a sumptuous sit-down dinner with traditional "loh yee sang" and other delights, entertainment by local and Malaysian singers, lion and cultural dance performances and "ang pow" lucky dips.
