Philippine Embassy Holds
Recognition Ceremony For IT Course Participants

Begawan - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam on
Sunday held an event to recognise graduates of Basic Computer
Literacy Course, which was carried out from November to December
last year.
On hand to present the certificates
of participation to 29 graduates was Ms Virginia H Benavidez. It was
held at "Ang Bahay", the official residence of the Philippine
Ambassador to Brunei.
Ms Benavidez also handed out
certificates of appreciation to the Philippine Embassy for Overseas
Filipino Workers (OFWs) who shared their time, talent and resources
to impart their knowledge on the basic use and operation of a
computer.
The course, part of the continuing
livelihood trainings and skills upgrading: programmes of OFWs, is
intended to equip participants with knowledge and aptitude,
particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet, to participating
members of the Ang Bahay Christian Family Fellowship.
The Philippine Embassy has been
conducting livelihood trainings and skills upgrading programmes in
an effort to improve the abilities and capabilities of the OFWs,
upgrade their competitive advantage and increase their opportunities
for better employment and higher salaries.
According to Ambassador Benavidez,
the livelihood training and skills upgrading programme is the
centrepiece of the embassy's initiative in promoting interests and
empowering the OFWs in Brunei, as well as a part of the
capacity-building activities being undertaken by the Philippine
government for OFWs. .
She said from January to December
2006, 540 OFWs were able to participate in various activities such
as the Basic and Advanced Computer Literacy Course; cooking and
baking demonstrations; first aid and CPR; How to Start a Small
Business and Basic Orientation Course.
The ambassador expressed her deep
appreciation to fellow Filipinos who continue to partner with the
Philippine Embassy 'in the spirit of `Bayanihan in conducting
several upgrading skill courses for the benefit of OFWs in Brunei.
She also stressed the importance of
holding recognition ceremonies always at the "Ang Bahay", as this
would be a very good way to gather members of the Filipino
community, interact with them and where OFWs can feel at home and
enjoy Filipino cuisine and hospitality.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy
also announced its livelihood trainings and skills upgrading
programmes for 2007. Courses being offered for the year include
Basic and Advanced Computer Course,
cooking and baking demonstrations, first aid, Basic Orientation
Course, Basic English-Malay Course, traditional massage and
