BSP Hosts Global Lawyers Conference

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd BSP? hosted a biannual Shell Global Exploration and Production Lawyers Conference yesterday at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong.

Over 80 Shell lawyers from the world over joined the Brunei Shell Legal Department for a week to share best practices on legal developments in the upstream oil and gas industn, A keynote was delivered by BSP Managing Director and event host Dr Grahaeme Henderson, during which he stated. "We are absolutely delighted to welcome so mans- Shell lawyers from all over the world to Brunei. There is an unlimited variety of legal risks surrounding our core exploration activities which require daily management, and as such, legal input is instrumental to meeting our deliverables.

"Apart from the knowledge and experience this conference brings to BSP, it clearly demonstrates that Brunei is maturing as a top-notch location for learning and development opportunities, an initiative BSP is actively pursuing."

BSP Legal Department head Ingrid de Jong added, "Conferences such as this enable us to provide continued high-quality services to Brunei Shell in today's complex legal environment. Although Seria may seem like a quiet place, the international dynamics of the energy business demand us to up our game everyday.

"We greatly benefit from the longstanding relationship with the Shell legal fraternity which counts over 600 lawyers’ countries in 115 countries. Apart from sharing knowledge, it provides overseas posting opportunities for Brunei lawyers."

The conference ends tomorrow.
