Contributions Pour In For National
Day Celebrations

Begawan - In A show of patriotism, some 50 private
organisations and individuals have come forward to do their part in
making the 23rd National Day a success through contributions and
sponsorships.
More than $170,000 was handed over
to the 23rd Brunei Darussalam National Day Sponsorship working
committee in a ceremony at the Rizqun International Hotel, yesterday
morning.
Receiving the sponsorships and
contributions was Pehin Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang
Hj Mohammad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in his capacity
as the co-chairman of the executive committee for the 23rd Brunei
Darussalam National Day celebration.
The biggest contribution came from
Brunei Shell Petroleum company (BSP), Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn Bhd (BST),
Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) and Brunei LNG who
handed over $100,000.
On hand to present the contribution
on behalf of the four companies was Pengiran Hj Yasmin bin Pg
Mohammad, Managing Director of BSM.
Other major contributors included
Royal Brunei Airlines with $10,000, Chop Teck Guan with $10,000, DST
Communications with $8,000 and Hua Ho Department Store and
Agriculture Farm with $6,000.
In addition to financial
contributions, a number of companies also sponsored drinks, food and
drinks, caps, T-shirts and even eggs.

Marsad Hj Ismail, co-chairman of the 23rd Brunei Darussalam's
National Day sponsorship working committee in his welcoming remarks
thanked the private sector and individuals for their sponsorship.
The contributions will be used for
decorative neon lights, lamppost banners and for the distribution of
mini national flags for vehicles on February 16, he said.
He added that this year 30,000 mini
national flags for vehicles would be distributed as compared to
previous years, where only 25,000 mini national flags were
distributed.
"The mini national flags flying
high on vehicles all over Brunei Darussalam will enliven the
atmosphere of the celebration and boost patriotism in the nation. It
will also strengthen the spirit of nationhood as well as the loyalty
to the sovereign and country," Hj Marsad said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture,
Youth and Sports in his speech said, "In line with this year's
National Day theme, `Commitment to Empower the Nation's Capability',
cooperation, commitment and support of all parties whether
educational institutions, private or public bodies, NGOs, commercial
or corporate firms, is an internal manifestation of the strong unity
and united commitment in ensuring a successful national day
