German MPs Visit NDP Headquarters
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Delegation of German MPs, who were visiting the country, said they were touched by the hospitality and openness of the people.

Head of delegation Dr Klaus W Lippold said, "The delegation comprises members of ruling, coalition and opposition parties to show our tolerance in democracy.

"We have to practise tolerance as we are a country comprising various ethnic groups.

"To ensure democracy, we need to practise tolerance. That's why we have been living in peace for 60 years."

Lippold was speaking during a press conference at the National Development Party (NDP) headquarters in Limbaruh Hijai, Jerudong on Saturday.

The delegation was accompanied by German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mr Conrad Cappell and spouse Mrs Lilo Cappell.

More than 300 members of NDP welcomed the German visitors, including president Yasin Affandy and his deputy, Mahmud Morshidi Othman.

Meanwhile, Yasin Affandy reiterated the party's firm stand to uphold the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy, which has been the core of the national identity, resilience, progress and development since the 15t" century.

"We are sovereign people ruled benevolently by a beloved monarch, and we do not welcome dictation on what is politically good for us.

"We welcome the sharing of views, opinions and ideas, but not pressure to accept or implement them. NDP wants Brunei Darussalam to tread very, very carefully so as not to commit the same mistakes made by certain countries and fail, as a result, in developing a national political structure, he said.

Several executive committee members ofParti Perpaduan Kebangsaan Brunei (PPKB) also attended the event. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
