Education
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A Five-Day workshop on "Career Education Services
In Schools & Colleges 2007" got under way yesterday at the Civil
Service Institute in Kg Rimba.
Some 55 teachers from across the
country are taking part in the February 12-17 programme, which is
being organised for the first time by the Career Education Unit,
Counselling and Career Guidance Section of the Department of
Schools, Ministry of Education. It was officially launched by Hj
Hamdani bin Hj Alias, Acting Head of Counselling and Career Guidance
Section.
The aim of the five-day course was
to provide basic training to career teachers so that they can
confidently carry out educational and careers guidance programmes at
their respective schools.
By providing students with proper
guidance, they will be more likely to get jobs that are in line with
their interest, talent and capability, Hj Hamdani said, adding that
it was very important for students, especially those in secondary
level, to be exposed to career planning.
With the rapid development in the
job market, students should make early preparations while in school,
Hj Hamdani said.
Therefore, career teachers play an
important role in providing guidance to their students so that they
can have a promising future, he added.
Hj Hamdani also said that the
responsibly of guiding students should not only fall on the
shoulders of parents but teachers as well. He hoped that the
five-day course will help teachers implement systematic and
effective programmes in their respective schools.
The first working paper was on
students' potential, and it was presented by Dr Ee Ah Meng. Other
speakers for the workshop include Chandraseagran Suppiah, Dr Hj
Zulkifli Mohamed Rasid, Hj Haji bin Hj Othman and Hjh Roslin bte
