Promoting Investment Opportunities In Brunei
By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Asean CCE (Conseiller du Commerce Exterieur de la France) or French trade advisors recently gathered in the country for their annual regional meeting. The regional meeting of the CCE presidents is held annually to exchange views on business in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

During the meeting, delegates said that Brunei Darussalam's stable environment and economic potentials were some of the main positive points in attracting the interest of French investors from regional countries.

According to Mr Patrick Bonneville, French Ambassador to Brunei, French trade advisors based in each Asean member country were attracted to the Sultanate because of its stable environment and economic potentials.

Mr Bonneville said that the meeting was "fruitful and positive". He added that potential investors were eyeing Brunei because they believe that the Sultanate can play an important regional role.

He added that investment opportunities in Brunei would be widely promoted in Hanoi, Vietnam later this year, as the group will be attending a meeting organised by the French Ministry of Foreign Trade and the French Confederation of Industry.

The meeting will be promoting the French economic presence in Asean including Brunei.

Meetings such as these, French companies would base their regional activities for Asean in the Sultanate.

Meanwhile, Mr Pierre Imhof, President of French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA), said the meeting was to promote investment opportunities in Brunei, and also provided a business matching opportunity for the CCE and FBBA.

"From the information attained in the meeting on investment potentials, there could be a possibility to invest in Brunei and other Asean countries," said Mr Jean Charles Belliol, Senior Country Officer from Vietnam, who was one of the participants of the meeting. He added that there was potential in the local market including oil and gas, tourism and consumer goods.

Currently, there is a big contingent of French related businesses established in the local economy.

Among them are Total E & P Borneo BV (oil and gas), Alcatel Brunei (telecommunications), Bureau Veritas (certification), lpedex (oil and gas), Technal Building Products and Thales International. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
