Czech Traveller To Take Home Happy
Memories
By Asri Razak
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei tourism will get free radio airtime in
Prague, Czech Republic, and exposure in a cultural club there,
according to a Czech history and geography lecturer.
Pavel
Fochler, a lecturer at University of Charles IV, said Prague's
broadcasting station has invited him to do a special one-hour travel
segment on his travel experience in Brunei.
He claimed that aside from the
radio programme, a cultural club in Prague will also highlight the
sultanate as a tourism destination through displays of pictures and
information about Brunei that may be useful to potential travellers
to this part of the world.
"At the cultural club, and on the
radio I will be discussing about the religion, the country and its
people, and how clean it is compared to other countries," said Pavel,
adding that "Bruneians are very friendly and helpful people. While
walking around in Kampong Ayer, I was invited for a drink."
Pavel's
visit in Brunei may have to be cut short as the youth hostel where
he is staying is being closed for renovation.
"If there are more budget hotels,
more young tourists will come visit Brunei," he said, adding that
European backpackers prefer to stay in budget hotels.
Ravel further noted that the
information booths for tourists were always closed during his stay
in the sultanate, and brochures containing maps of Brunei at the
booth were only available in Mandarin.
Ravel added Brunei Darussalam has
the potential to promote its history and ecotourism as tourism
attraction for potential tourists. -- Courtesy of
