Begawan - At About 9am-yesterday, the giant national flag was
raised at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Boikiah Foundation Complex in the
capital, marking the first of many National Day celebrations to come
this month.
This year's celebration on February
23 is the 23rd National Day celebrations for the nation.
Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri
Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud said that the flag raising ceremony was
a proud moment for the nation.
"Even though it is only a fabric
design with layered colours, the national flag is the nation's
emblem of sovereignty," he said in his speech.
He stated that the national flag
should evoke a spirit of patriotism and love for the nation in every
Bruneian, young and old.
With the country's flags hoisted in
all four districts of the nation, the mood has been set in the
nation for the big day.
Students involved in the
celebrations and parades have been practicing for this day, to
execute their dedicated performances with ease.
Brunei celebrates National Day on
February 23 but due to a non-working day on Friday, celebrations
will be held the next day at the Grand Assembly at the Taman Haji
Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien.
A huge crowd of 8,000 people is expected to participate in the
