Foreigners Nabbed For Prostitution

Begawan - The Anti-Vice Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force
apprehended a group of foreigners on prostitution charges.
The accused, nine women and two
men, were caught on February 7, while engaging in harlotry in two
separate places the Bunut Commercial Centre at Jalan Tutong and
Kampong Delima Satu, Berakas.
A spokeswoman for the Anti-Vice
Unit said that Wednesday's arrest was the fifth made this year.
"All of those arrested were
foreigners," she said, adding that most of the women came from
China.
The arrests were made after the
police received tip-offs from the public, said Pg Hj Mohd Roslin,
Acting Head of the Police Force's public relations unit.
Those arrested were held for
further questioning, but some have been released on bail since then.
According to the official statement
from the police, those found guilty could be punished under Section
5 of the Women and Girls Protection Act Cap 120, whereby they will
be jailed for five years and/or fined $20,000.
While those convicted under Section
2 of the Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Act Cap 29, could face up to
seven years in jail and receive 24 cane lashes.
The authorities also thanked the
public for providing information leading to the arrest and
encouraged others to come forward if they have any information
regarding any activities that violate the sultanate's laws and
regulations. It would be society's great contribution towards
