Religious College To Begin Classes

Begawan - The Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University
College will begin offering courses for Higher National Diploma (HND)
and Bachelors Degree in Religious Instruction in August, said the
Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The first intake between 60 to 90
students is scheduled to embark on their respective courses at the
current campus in Jalan Tutong, which was previously known as the
Seri Begawan Teaching College, before the announcement of its
upgraded status to a university college.
The students will receive
instructions and guidance from both local and foreign lecturers.
During a recent interview with
Radio Television Brunei (RTB), the Deputy Minister of Religious
Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj
Badaruddin said that the university college will be initially based
in the existing premises of the teaching college, as it is readily
equipped with lecture theatres, hostels, halls, prayer halls and
administrative offices.
The official statement went on to
say that the entrance requirement to the university college for the
teaching degree is at least 'A' level qualifications or a Higher
Certificate in religious teaching (STPU). The degree programme is
open to fresh graduates as well as those with one year working
experience and in possession of A' level and STPU qualifications.
In addition, those who have
completed their Teaching College certificate and have been in
service for a year can continue their studies at the diploma level
at the university college.
The courses are designed to
instruct and prepare aspiring religious teachers and staff to
acquire all the relevant and necessary qualities to meet the
national demand for quality local manpower.

interview also stressed that the University College differs from
other higher learning institutions as it focuses on both religious
knowledge and teaching instruction, and these two fields will be
kept separate from and not incorporated with other subjects.
The Seri Begawan Religious Teachers
College - which had been teaching for more than 30 years - was
recently elevated to the status of University College during the
Islamic New Year of 1428 hijrah 1428. The announcement was made by
His Majesty the Sultan 111(1 Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam
during his titah to mark the auspicious day.
The teaching college has produced
3,697 Graduate to Gate. Most go lilt to Teach Islamic knowledge in
schools, said the deputy minister, although some have also tent
