Technic Institute's Alumni Hold A Special Get-Together
By Want Gapar

Bandar Seri Begawan - Former students of class 1989-1994 of the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and Sultan Saiful Rizal Technical College congregated at the Orchid Garden Hotel last night for an Alumni Gathering, the first since they left the educational institutions.

A spokesperson for the organising committee for the event stated that the dinner was held to "meet up with former classmates and renew ties".

An ITB lecturer Hj Morsidi Hi Kasim who talked to The Brunei Times about his experience teaching at the institution said: "I feel very fortunate to teach the students there because it is easier to manage mature students."

He went on to say that perhaps the learning experience at the institute could be further improved by "developing teaching aids such as equipment and having larger lecture rooms". When asked about his dream for ITB, Hj Morsidi replied, "I hope ITB could be a technical university in Brunei in the near future."

A senior engineering lecturer, Joffry Hj Bungsuwho has been at ITB since July 1991, said the institute has come a long way in the sense that "there are a lot more locals on staff at ITB", but added that the challenges the institute faces are still considerable. "Right now there are many Higher National Diploma students who would like to continue their studies but not all of them are able to go overseas. If ITB could develop its degree programmes then it would at least alleviate some of their problems," he said.

The guest of honour at the function was Cikgu Hj Ibrahim Hj Bagol, Chief Education Officer.
