Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei and Singapore's health authorities have
agreed to further enhance cooperation in basic healthcare as well as
exchange of information on health-related issues.
Brunei's Ministry of Health said in
a statement yesterday that the two neighbours, as stipulated in a
recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), will collaborate
on a range of issues, including safety and quality control of food,
control of infectious health diseases and human resource development
through exchange visits of health staff from both sides.
They will also assist each other in
drafting regulations covering pharmaceutical, medicine and cosmetic
products and the development of medical and health research.
Brunei and Singapore have also
agreed to prepare an action plan to arrange the implementation of
relevant health programmes and activities.
Minister of Health Pehin Orang Kaya
Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman signed the MoU on
behalf of His Majesty's Government during his two-day official visit
to Singapore.
Singapore was represented by its
minister of health, Khaw Boon Wan, at the signing ceremony.
The scope of the MoU was expanded
after a previous agreement in 2004 to establish short and long-term
training of human resources and the delivery of postgraduate medical
training and research, which are in line with the Ministry of
Health's Strategic Planning 2000-2010.
During his two-day visit, Pehin
Dato Suyoi and the Bruneian delegation visited Singapore's Health
Promotion Board and Health Sciences Authority.
The board, established in 2001,
enforces national health promotion and disease prevention programmes.
