Crime On The Rise: RBPF
By Husin Ismail
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Last year saw the number of crime cases in Brunei
rise from the previous year, according to an officer of the Royal
Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
Corporal Low Kui Lia said the
police force is preparing to tackle the challenge and ensure that
criminality will not worsen further.
He, however, declined to release
figures on crime cases, pending approval by the RBPF leadership,
which yesterday concluded the conduct of a general investigation
course.
"We were trained on how to deal
with general crime cases from the very beginning of the
investigation and bringing them up to the court level, ' said Low.
The course also guided the 30
police officers on proper and effective ways for police stations to
liaise in solving crime cases.
The 12-days course had lecturers
who were trained overseas and have specialised in certain aspects of
crime investigation.
"Throughout this course, we were
putting what we had known about investigation into practice with
proper supervision by our trained instructors," added Low.
Some of the training staff were
trained in the United Kingdom, Italy, the US, Malaysia, Singapore
and Australia.
"It was a good training approach to
have locals handle the training because they were raised here and
are more Finniliar with how criminals here react to police
investigation,", Low said.
Criminals are getting smarter
nowadays, said Lance Corporal Ainee Metassan.
"Throughout this course, we gained
confidence in investigating certain cases assigned to us," she said.
She added: As the number or
criminals is increasing over time, this course helps us to deal with
these cases efficiently."
