Heart Of Borneo Signing Ceremony

Begawan - A Brunei delegation, led by Pehin Dato Dr Awang
Haji Ahmad bin Haji Jumat, departs for Bali, Indonesia today to
attend the signing of the Heart Of Borneo Declaration ceremony,
realising the conservation policy of Bomean natural resources.
He will also be conveying His
Majesty's government's readiness to work together with the
Indonesian and Malaysian governments to ensure the future of Heart
of Borneo, a press release said.
He is accompanied by the Permanent
Secretary of Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and senior
officials from the MIPR and the Forestry Department.
The declaration was adopted during
the BIMP-EAGA Summit in Cebu, Philippines on January 12, 2007.
Borneo leaders recognised the area as one of the most important
centres of biological diversity in the world, covering approximately
220,000 square km of equatorial rainforests and numerous wildlife
species.
Under the HoB initiatives, Brunei
Darussalam will be expected to have a stronger collaboration with
its Bornean counterparts in the conservation of natural resources
and protection strategy especially on the identified natural
heritage sites within the Island of Borneo, the press release said.
Any development within the
identified HoB area will be subject to underlying principles of
