Flash Flood Hit Seria And KB
By Liza Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The continuous rainfall since Friday midnight till
early Saturday morning yesterday caused temporary flash floods in
low-lying areas in Seria and Kuala Belait.
Affected areas include flats along
Jalan Masjid Seria, roads and a school nearby, as the people woke up
to a new day being surrounded by floodwaters.
Flat occupiers had to move their
vehicles to higher ground and parked their cars at the Seria mosque
parking lot in the early morning, fearing that waters will rise.
Flood waters also entered a school
classroom in Seria and students had to shift to a different class to
proceed with school activity. But no notice of closure was made as
the flood waters only affected Nursery and Lower Kindergarten
classrooms.
The areas mentioned in Seria are
flood-prone and flash floods will occur if a downpour stretches for
more than two hours.
Other low-lying areas in Seria
which was hit by flash floods yesterday morning include Jalan Utara
Panaga, BSP housing areas and some parts of Seria Chinese villages.
Certain low-lying roads in Kuala
Belait also experienced temporary flash flood in particular, Jalan
Setia di-Raja which is the most badly affected area.
However by I Oam yesterday, most
flood waters began to recede. Flash floods caused slow-moving
traffic especially at peak hours as cars slow down when passing
rising waters and it is also notable that cars could break down,
further worsening the traffic chaos. -- Courtesy of Borneo
