Schoolteachers Receive Awards

Begawan - Some 320 hopeful educators from 17 government
primary schools in the Belait District gathered at Brunei Shell
Recreational Club Thursday afternoon for a ceremony to appreciate
and award deserving teachers.
At the function, Cikgu Bungsu
Dullah from Sekolah Rendah Muhd Alam was presented with the 2006
Excellent Teacher Award in the pre-level category, while Cikgu Hjh
Hazarina Abdullah of SR Sungai Tali was the recipient for lower
primary level and Cikgu Asni Abdullah from SR Panaga was winner for
the upper primary level.
The annual programme was organised
by the district's Schools Department with cooperation from AJK
Primary School Principals and Assistant Principals.
Present as its chief guest was the
Schools Department's Assistant Director Cikgu Juna Jumat. The
department's Senior District Education Officer and event's Chairman
Cikgu Ramlee Abd Rahman said that it was held to strengthen ties
among teachers Apart from that, it was also organised to appreciate
or celebrate educators who have successfully performed their tasks
and responsibilities with utmost patience and diligence.
Belait
District last year achieved an excellent academic level, whereby its
percentage of PSR passes surpassed the national target of 90.94 per
cent, stated Cikgu Ramlee.
The chairman believed that the
success could be attributed to the leadership and assistance shown
by teachers, as well as the support from most parents and guardians.
The district's primary schools
organised a few projects leaning towards the reading culture and
skills in the field of mathematics.
The event's committee members this
year also agreed to award seven schools that achieved a 100 per cent
pass in the PSR exam, as well as those that succeeded in producing
