Hadee Pg Hj Yasfadillah, Amal Majeedah Aji, Hjh Siti Salwa Khair
POKMS Hj Tarif and Hjh Siti Nurhazimah Hj Abu Bakar.
The students are scheduled to
depart February 23, pending approval from the Ministry of Education,
to pursue their degree in UNSW for a period of four years. They will
be bonded to the company for five years upon graduation.
Present to witness the signing was
BSP Deputy Managing Director, Hj ZainalAbidin bin Hj MohdAli, and
Head of HR Planning and Development, Malai Hjh Nuridah Sheikh
Mohammad, who signed on behalf of BSP.
Hj Zainal in his speech
congratulated the successful scholars, four males and five females,
which reflects the company's diversity and inclusiveness policy.
He added that Petroleum Engineering
is a scarce job discipline worldwide, and students pursuing this
degree are considered a rare breed.
In the future, Brunei plans to find
more gas and when these students return to join the BSP workforce,
they will inevitably play an important role in achieving this
mission, Hj Zainal said.
He added that BSP will continue to
sponsor more students who meet the company's scholarship
requirements and this was one of the company's strategies to ensure
an adequate supply of workforce to support it in the coming future,
especially in the technical disciplines such as petroleum
engineering, subsurface engineering and surveying and mapping
science.
BSP is also sponsoring two of its
employees to pursue their studies in UNSW. They are Awg Md Aliza bin
Md Hassan (DPE/11), who will do his Masters of Science in Petroleum
Engineering, and Dayang Shirley Sikun (TSM/ 111), who will do her
Masters of Science in Surveying and Spatial Info System. BSP
currently has 23 BSP scholars studying in UNSW including one who is
undertaking Masters of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
Hj Zainal also advised scholars who
will be living on their own in a foreign country land to manage
their finances and time as well both on and off campus or they would
stray from the tracks. He urged scholars to uphold their Bruneian
roots and stay away from the negative elements that could jeopardise
their future and tarnish the image of the country and company. The
signing ceremony took place between students, surety and BSP. This
is the fourth intake since BSP introduces scholarship to Australia.
Currently, there are 90 scholars under BSP scholarship studying in
Australia and United Kingdom. -- Courtesy of Borneo
