Two Traditional Medicines Recalled
By Hadi DP Mahmud
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two more `traditional medicines' have been found to
contain substances, controlled under the Poisons Act, an advisory
report from the Health Ministry stated yesterday.
The public are advised to refrain
from purchasing 'Obat Asam Urat' and `Flu Tulang Plus Ginseng
Tablets' and 'Obat Asam Urat' and `Flu Tulang Capsules', both
products of Indonesia's Jamu Alam Makasar Industry.
The former was discovered to
contain Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Propyphenazone and Dextromethorphan
while the latter was found to contain
Paracetamol,
Diclofenac and Phenylbutazone. Unsupervised consumption of
Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Propyphenazone and Phenylbutazone may lead to
gastric pains, hearing disturbance, shortness of breath and blood
disorder. Paracetamol is a common painkiller and its long term use
may cause rashes, lowered blood pressure and blood disorders.
'Obat Asam Urat' and `Flu Tulang
Capsules' states at the back of the packaging that 10 per cent of
its contents consist of "other ingredients".
Individuals or vendors caught
selling these products are liable to a fine of $8,000 or
imprisonment of six months under the Poisons Act. -- Courtesy of
