Biz Trip For Single Mothers
By Norhayati Zalani
Kuala Belait
- With a view to making single mothers self-reliant and economically
independent, 13 members of the Kampong Lumut Satu Consultative
Council here and a group of single mothers, recently visited the
industrial areas in Kampong Mukah and Kampong Pulat in Miri,
Sarawak, where they produced traditional dry foods.
Hj
Shafiee Abroad, Head of Kampong Lumut Satu said the aim of the visit
was to show the single mothers the economic benefits of setting up a
business in local traditional delicacies.
"The reason for selecting Mukah and
Pulat was because they are experts in making traditional sweets such
as kueh bauhulu and kueh sapit. I believe the visit has given them
the opportunity to learn more about making the traditional
delicacies from their hosts," he said.
Kampong Lumut Satu has, since
August last year, embarked on a project for single mothers whereby
the women make and sell traditional snacks to supplement their
income. Hj Shafiee said since the project started he has seen
considerable improvement in the way single mothers were marketing
their products. -- Courtesy of
