LNG charts impressive safety
record

Begawan - Brunei Shell Tankers outstanding performance have
been "impressive and safety standards have been high with two ships
in the fleet operating for more than 10 years in one stretch without
any injury serious," according to Brunei Shell Marketing's website.
Brunei Shell Tankers is the
lifeline of the nation's economy which runs a complex liquefied
natural gas (LNG) delivery system to Japan, its main customer, in a
14 day round trip.
There are a total of eight cargo
carriers in the fleet of which seven of the eight tankers are named
after local fishes; Bebatik, Bekalang, Bekulan, Belais, Belanak,
Bilis and Bubuk. Meanwhile, a 137,000 cubic metre capacity LNG
carrier owned by Brunei Gas Carries Sdn Bhd has since replaced the
chartered LNG Abadiin July 2002.
The tankers, chartered specifically
by Brunei LNG, exported approximately 12.5 million cubic metres of
the nation's liquefied natural gas last year.
Brunei Shell Tankers has been
supervised by Brunei Gas Carriers since 1 June 2005.
The government founded the
Bruneianisation Policy whereby both Brunei Shell Tankers and Brunei
Gas Carriers embark on a sustainable recruitment and development
programme for home-grown talent to run and manage Brunei's LNG cargo
carriers.
The company's programme of
accelerated "Bruneianisation" entails local Bruneians holding the
Master and Chief Engineer positions on all the vessels, of which, to
date, Brunei Shell Tankers has sponsored for the training of 44
