Donations Pour For Welfare House,
Fire Victims, School

Begawan - Two charity events held yesterday benefited several
families who are fire victims and an organisation that runs a
welfare house.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth acid
Sports, Pehin Orang,Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (R) Dato Seri
Pahlawan Hj Mohamniad Daud, presented a total of $15,250 of
donations to 13 recipients. Some were fire victims; some had to put
up living in damaged houses for sometime, while others were
recipients of the School Children's Sponsorship Fund.
Through the Community Development
Department, the ministry donated $8,900 to four fire victims, $4,000
to owners of four damaged houses and handed out $2,350 to five
individuals. The monarch's foundation, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah, also gave $2,700 to three families who were fire victims
from the Brunei-Muara and Belait districts, and necessary utilities
to a school. The donations were presented by a member of the board
of directors, Dato Paduka Junaidi Pehin Dato Paduka Hashim.
One of the recipients, whose house
has damaged floors, ceiling and walls said that the help given was a
happy start for the family of four from Kampong Lumapas.
"They called us up and sent us a
letter saying that we will be receiving help," said Md Fadhillah Md
Salleh.
Meanwhile another charity event was
held at the Pulaie Welfare House Complex and the Pusat Bahagia
Pulaie in which the Diplomatic Mission Wives Association donated
$1,000 to the Community Development Department.
The complex is a temporary shelter
house for abused and abandoned victims and also a rehabilitation
place for female, teenagers seeking treatment for negative social
