Royal Regalia Building Draws
Growing Number Of Tourists

Begawan - The Royal Regalia Building in the capital is a
popular attraction for tourists. Last year, the Royal Regalia
recorded 84,049 visitors compared to 73,205 in 2005.
The building stores a collection of
precious ceremonial regalia and was built to commemorate the 1992
Silver Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan's
ascension to the throne.
It also contains priceless
collections such as gold and silver armoury, jewel-encrusted crowns,
a royal chariot, a replica throne as well as gifts that His Majesty
has received.
A total of 16,401 people from China
visited the Royal Regalia last year. On average, over 1,000 tourists
from China visited the building per month, where the highest number
of visitors (2,705) was recorded in Feb 2006. The Lunar Spring
Festival is a weeklong holiday in China, and more affluent Chinese
are travelling outside their country.
February and July are busy times
for local travel agencies because the country would be abnzz with
activities during these two months to mark Brunei's National Day as
well as His Majesty's birthday.
According to the Royal Regalia's
staff, the number of tourists from Korea was also increasing. Last
December, the building opened it doors to 205 people from Korea, 473
from Singapore, 363 from Malaysia, 323 from England and 1,149 from
China.
Aside from the Royal Regalia, there
are other interesting tourist spots around the capital such as the
Arts and Handicraft Centre, Brunei Museum and Malay Technology
Museum, as well as historical sites namely the Royal Mausoleum and
