Frontline To Build Virtual
Integrated Library
By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Frontline Technologies Corporation Ltd
("Frontline"), a leading IT service provider in Asia, recently
announced in a press release that its wholly-owned subsidiary,
Frontline Solutions Pte Ltd ("Frontline Solutions"), has signed a
deal with Brunei Darussalam's Ministry of Education to build a
virtual Integrated Library Information System (VILIS).
Frontline Solutions, one of the
sub-contractors selected to develop and implement BNDI I million
VILIS for Brunei's MoE, will be working with a local prime
contractor, Alif Technologies Sdn Bhd, for this project. It is
expected to take eight months and will start this month.
Earlier, both companies had a
successful partnership in developing an eLibrary portal for UBD in
March 2005.
A multilingual (English, Arabic and
Bahasa Melayu) integrated service portal will serve the university's
library community. This portal was the first successfully launched
eService project by the Brunei government as part of its 10-year IT
master plan.
VILIS
portal was initiated by MoE with the aim of meeting the needs of
education and teaching professionals throughout the country for
information and library services by providing convenient, timely
access to relevant literature and reference guides.
Frontline Solutions will create a
nation-wide framework for VILIS to link educational officers and
practitioners in both urban and rural regions to an integrated,
consolidated educational information, knowledge and library network.
The portal will be built by
leveraging on Frontline Solutions' proprietary educational framework
that is being used by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in
Singapore since 2003.
By using NTU education portal as a
working model, Frontline Solutions is able to build VILIS using the
same foundation and concepts, thus ensuring a faster time to market
and quality delivery for VILIS.
Executive Chairman of Frontline
Technologies, Mr Steve Ting, said they are privileged to be involved
in Brunei's eService project development and with their past success
in building similar projects, they can capitalise the project to
develop VILIS, achieving greater quality and time efficiency.
Meanwhile, Acting Chief Librarian
of UBD, Dr Suhaimi Hj Abd Karim, said with the proven track record
that Frontline Solutions has, they are pleased to be in partnership
with them in our eService initiative and are confident that they
(Frontline) can deliver VILIS with the highest quality.
Frontline Solutions, with the
successful rollout of the eLibrary portal and the development of
VILIS in the pipeline, is poised to secure bigger service projects
in Brunei by working closely with Alif Technologies. -- Courtesy of Borneo
