Officials Raid House Construction
Site In Sungai Teraban, 3 Indonesians Arrested

Begawan - Three Indonesians were arrested at a house
construction site in Kampong Sungai Teraban by the Belait
Immigration Enforcement Section.
According to the Immigration
Department, the enforcement agency was carrying out patrol and
observation at surrounding areas in the kampong and made a surprise
inspection at a house construction site where officials discovered
two Indonesian workers carrying out cementing jobs.
The duo claimed that they did the
job without their current employer's knowledge.
Early investigation revealed that
both suspects were hired temporarily to work at the said
construction site. They said they were previously allocated by their
employer to work with a different construction company. However, the
company's project was called off and they were offered to work at
the current site by a friend who is also working on a casual basis.
The man who claimed to be
responsible in hiring the two suspects was detained upon arrival at
the construction site for further investigation.
According to the Immigration Act,
both suspects if convicted could face a fine of B$600 for not
abiding with the employment pass rule conditions. Meanwhile, those
who hired the suspects will be brought to court to face charges
under Chapter 55 (1) (e) of the Immigration Act and if found guilty
could face a maximum imprisonment term of two years or fine of not
less than B$3,000 and not more than B$6,000 or both: For second or
subsequent offender, he or she could face a prison term of not more
than four years or fine of not less than B$6,000 and not more than
B$12,000 or both. The raid was conducted by five immigration
